Nobody’s Perfect. And Neither is Your Inbound Marketing Campaign.

Written by Kenneth Lempit | Apr 22, 2014 3:30:00 AM

Whenever I attend a Webinar or read a great blog post on Inbound Marketing best practices, I get fired up to start adding the new strategies and tactics I've learned for our own and our clients' Inbound Marketing campaigns. Sometimes these new tactics get implemented (and tested and refined) and sometimes they don’t. In some cases, they are delayed by other priorities and implemented later. We know that our Website, blog and Inbound Marketing is far from perfect. And yours is (imperfect), too.

For years we’ve said, “any strategy is better than no strategy at all,” when it comes to marketing. And it’s true with Inbound as well. If your Inbound Marketing campaign is generating positive ROI, it’s “good.” Could it be better? Likely so. But instead of focusing on perfection, we recommend you prioritize Inbound Marketing activities and investments like anything else you do in business. And be satisfied if the results are satisfying. If they're not, keep working at it until the marginal effort to improve is greater than the value of the improvement.

This week we’re so focused on our Inbound Marketing Deep Dive seminar (Weds., April 23, 6:00 - 8:30 p.m. at the Stamford Innovation Center – register here) that we didn’t have time to write our usual epic blog post. We’re falling far short of perfection.

We were inspired this week by a viral video campaign on perceived perfection that we just need to share. DermablendPro created a series of videos featuring real people who have skin conditions that cause them to be perceived differently than who they really are. The message is that we need to look deeper than first impressions. The subjects of these videos are truly brave to share their stories. They tell us that perfection isn’t real, that beauty truly is in the eye of the beholder and that you need to dig deep to learn who people really are. And I bet they also sold a bunch of makeup and earned customers for life with this brave and empathetic campaign.  You can see one of the videos in this series below:

None of us is perfect, and neither is our marketing. But we can improve ourselves every day. Please join us for a little Inbound Marketing self-improvement at our seminar this Wednesday, April 23, 6:00 - 8:30 p.m. at the Stamford Innovation Center.  You can register here.  And there will be pizza, or small sandwiches from Fairway Market to keep us all going through the dinner hour.

Hope to see you there and then!
